Live Concert Clips

Hi Does anyone know if this is possible with Pot Player or similar.

I have a large collection of Live Music Concerts which I have ripped to my hard disc. I would like to be able to play one or two songs from these concerts by using a play list.

I asked this question a few years back on another forum and was told the only way it was possible was to rip using DVD shrink, making multiple copies of the concert with different start and stop points then renaming each resultant file with the name of the song. With over 200 concerts it was beyond me.

Perhaps the latest software will allow it a little easier using markers (???) I dont know.

What is the file format of each of your concert files? How did you get or make them in the first place?

What about editing them using VideoReDo, creating individual "clips" in some video file format of the one or two songs from that particular concert which you might someday want to play individually? You can store these "clips" in folder(s) of your own choosing for subsequent selection and use with PotPlayer or any other suitable player.

Or, once you have the clips you can even create your own "authored BluRay" BDMV discs (using multiAVCHD and IMGBurn) of these clips, with titles (concerts) and chapters (songs) that would make navigation and playback from this shiny disc usable in any ordinary mechanical player with your HDTV.

One way or another, you're going to have to go through your 200 concerts and identify the start/stop point for songs you are looking to be able to play on-command, independently of having to play the entire concert video. So why not just create "clips", which gives you maximum future burn/play flexibility no matter what you then want to do with them?

I guess there is no simple solution except to do as you say and rip individual tracks from the DVD's. This was the solution a few years back using DVD shrink. It was a heck of a chore so never tackled, should have done.

I just wish there was a way to take a Concert DVD and automatically split the files according to the track markers. Like a CD that has all the metadata for each track already. Now its a process. Cue each track, start end. encode, rename each song. Save.

I have a small bar here in Africa and sometimes I just want to VJ with some of the Live stuff I've got.

I just found a program from 2001 called 'Smart Ripper'. Very old but it seems to do what I need.

It actually recognizes the start and end of each song and sets them as chapters. Then it rips the chapters to MPG VOB files.

I Just ripped a Bonamassa DVD and its great. Pulled up the DVD for sale on Amazon, copied the track names (Individually) clicked each VOB file to rename and pasted in x Amazon... hate typing. Tried several in Pot Player playlist and all's good. Job done. 199 discs to go...........

So at least I know I can do it without shelling out anymore money.

Or is it actually just recognizing the chapters which are already defined on the DVD, which the original DVD authoring created to correspond one-to-one with each specific songs, and then allowing the creation of individual external VOB files corresponding to each chapter of the DVD... which thankfully are exactly the start/stop points you were looking for all along, i.e. one chapter per song? The songs and chapter numbers are always listed on the jacket for your convenience, because the disc authors know that's how you will likely be playing the concert disc.

This authoring method (i.e. one chapter per song title performance) allows for exactly what users always want when viewing a commercial music/concert DVD/BDMV (e.g. "Hell Freezes Over" by The Eagles), namely the ability to navigate your machine player directly and immediately to a desired song (i.e. specific chapter number or thumbnail) from the table of contents (or thumbnail presentation). So I can appreciate how useful this would be if you wanted to collect separately playable music video files (e.g. VOB) for your own playlist assembly automatically, i.e. without having to truly do your own manual editing (say with VideoRedo or other tool) to manually define the start/stop points on the source DVD and manually save it.
