Editing the midsection out of MP4.

I need to be able to edit about 30 secs from the middle of an MP4 or WMV. I am using Windows Movie Maker to trim the beginning and end. But for the life of me I cannot figure out how to cut 30 secs from the middle of the video. Is it possible with Windows Movie Maker?? Or is there a free editing program that is simple and easy to use? Anything will help.

I believe in WMM you have to put the same clip in your timeline twice, trim the tail of the first clip, the head of the second clip then butt the pieces together.

Try AviDemux for a free solution that allows you to simply mark your in and out (restricted to keyframes.)

Video To Video Converter has splitting and commercial removing options under it's Tools menu. Naturally the commercial remover can remove sections from a file whether they contain commercials or not. I think after applying your splits/cuts, Video To Video Converter will ask you to choose a conversion preset. If it does, choosing the "direct stream copy" preset will copy the video and audio to the output file (it won't be converted again).

I tried both of these. I had more luck with Video To Video Converter. Still just way to hard. I edited the video. But it had a black spot for a few secs where I deleted 40 secs. And also I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it from Video Converter back onto my computer after I edit it. Every time I do something the whole program closes and I have to re-edit and start over. Very frustrating.

I would do the WMM Split then edit together. But the editing together part has me stumped.

I am lost on WMM. I mean I have NONE of the tabs to click on. No "Clip" tab, No "Combine" Heck I cannot even find where to import the video! None of this matches my WMM. And I just updated to 2012. Do I have to sign in? What am I missing. I know it is prob something stupid.
