Jvc dr mx1 vhs dvd hdd finalizing compatibility

Good day all,

Im been a part of this jvc dr mx1 drama for awhile. Mine dvd side doesn't recognize discs anymore either for a few years and no resolution online. I have some discs from this machine i never finalized after filling up some of these discs because i was going to label my chapters.

I went on ebay this week to get a used one and upon its arrival the dvd side DIDN'T WORK EITHER UGH!!! Thats being handled.

But my question is does any know is there a jvc model that is compatible to my model that will do the finalizing? I tried that with one model already and it doesn't work.

You just need a compatible model from the same era (2003-2005), you don't specifically need another DRM-X1 (which is very rare, and almost all used ones are dead by now).

Look for something like the DRM-V5 DVD/VHS unit from 2005: this was probably the least troublesome of the series and the most likely to be found today with a functional DVD drive. Another good possibility would be the DVD-only version, which was DRM-100. The earlier DRM-V1 and DRM-10 were less reliable and most used examples are not functional today. Later post-2005 DVD/VHS models were re-badged LG units with a different finalizing system.

I have also seen posts in the past suggesting Panasonic and JVC recorders of the same period 2002-2005 could finalize each others DVDs, because the two "sister" companies shared disc finalizing strategy. I can't personally verify this, but it was posted by members considered "expert" at the time. An inexpensive model like Panasonic DMR-ES20 should work for this finalizing task.

Note ALL brands of DVD recorder made prior to 2006 have proven much less reliable than later models. Either they had problems with faulty flimsy DVD drives, or they have problems with their power circuitry. Some unlucky models were plagued with both issues. So you may have difficulty tracking down a fully-operational old recorder. The models I suggest above were not immune to these problems but tended to be a bit easier to fix, so it may be worth your while to have a broken one repaired (or fix it your self).

The JVC DRM-V5 and DRM-100 had issues with their power parts due to a bad capacitor. This is a trivial repair for a service shop, involving only the removal/replacement of a few caps. The Panasonic models had DVD drives that like to "play dead": when they get dusty inside they don't work, but if you open them up and clean the disc clamp and spindle they come back to life (many owners do this once a year).

Yes LS has stated this on several occasions, that the old original JVCs were compatible with Panasonic. If this is true then any Panasonic(including the ES-20 Orsetto mentioned) would work to do the finalizing although very old Panasonics(prior to '04) didn't product thumbnails upon finalizing, only a list style display.
Note that newer "LG" JVCs are NOT compatible with Panasonics.

I would just add that the early JVC models had the same finalized dvd menu appearance you cite above for Panasonic: a text-only, no-thumbnail, list of titles that highlight when clicked. So there shouldn't be any functional difference if one brand is used to finalize the other's discs.
