I have a sony trv140 and am running the usb thru my standard front usb port. The pc is BRAND new and is a HP 520n/1.3 celeron.
Instead of the DV standard 720x480 its dropping the size to 320 or the 300's x 200's. I forget exactly what the size is..But it looks all noisy. On the TV its crystall clear even the stills.....
I am using sony's pixela imaging software and I tried xp's movies maker and it still does the same thing. EVEN the still pictures look horible...
Can I alter something in the PC to make the USB better or am I screwed!! HAHAHA
I mean are there tweeks or is something wrong with the computer? I was told its software, video card, and NOT having a DV card? It can't be the camera because of the TV quality.. Its gotta be the pc???

You are most likely using the MS DV codec, which is enabled in low resolution by default. There is a registry key that will turn on the hi resolution in the MS DV codec.
Do a search in this forum, or at groups.google.com for how to enable the MS DV codec in high resolution. -
bananas are yellower than oranges, but the trv140 isn't a banana, nor is it an orange, nor does it do USB 2.0
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war." -
USB 2.0 might be faster than Firewire but with USB all the processing takes place on your machine where as with firewire the processing takes place on the card. Therefore you have a less of a performance drop with firewire. Also firewire guarantees a certain allocated bandwidth for a dveice where as USB shares the bandwidth and this drops the more devices you plug in.Originally Posted by Urbs
