At the moment I prefer GOM Player because of certain settings but I wonder if VLC can be configured to behave this way as well.
When I open a video in GOM Player, everything in the same directory gets added to the playlist. Is there a way to do this with VLC?
Secondly when I press the back or fwd arrow it rewinds/fwd's 5 seconds. In VLC you have to press the alt + arrow button. Is there a way to reconfigure this?
Thanks!

Thanks a lot guys.
I changed the hot keys. I changed "very short jump backwards" from Shift + Left to just Left arrow, and forwards to right.
However when I go back to the video when I play it pressing the left button doesnt do anything. When I press Shift+Left that works, even though in the hoy keys thats not even mentioned anywhere anymore.
For the whole directory thing the information you guys have given has helped. What I'd ideally like though is that if I locate a file in Windows Explorer and play it, the whole directory gets automatically added. That's what happens in GOM. Can that happen, without the extra step? -
If you care to try MPC-HC it has a "what to do when the current file has finished playing" option, which can be set to automatically play the next file in the folder, and then the next etc.
It's not the same as a Playlist, although MPC-HC has one. I've never used the playlist though so I know nothing about it, but I assume you could drag and drop and bunch of files into it and MPC-HC will play them all, given that's the sort of thing for which playlists tend to be used. -
He was talking about MPC-HC -- Media Player Classic Home Cinema. Click on the links.

OK cool. So anyway, is there a way to change the preferences so that when something opens in VLC, that everything in that folder gets added to the playlist automatically? I dont want to have to find the folder in windows explorer and then drag it over. Thats what I do currently but if I can remove the find step, that would be great. That's what Im currently doing.
