There is a 'discussion' forum I participate in that has recently been invaded by a troll with multiple aliases and all day to mess with people. The forum owner isn't interested enough to do more than wipe their fake IDs a couple times a week.

Long story short, I posted a couple unkind remarks about this troll, and soon I found that my input window, (like the one I'm typing in right now) suddenly was using this grayed out, broken font that is almost totally illegible.

Norton finds nothing wrong, and it only happens on that particular site, in both Firefox & Chrome.

I can type what I want in Notepad and paste it in, once posted it appears normal and others can read it.

I think this means that the hacker is inside the site's member list. The site runs on very old code, circa 90s...
The site does know and report if multiple IDs show up from the same computer, but doesn't prevent them. This guy must have access to quite a number of machines, as the couple-hours-per-week moderator amateur mod has been chasing him for quite a while.

Any great ideas on fixing this from my end? thanks!

I'd like to do it without creating a new logon myself or letting him set some new cookie or whatever; as of now he may think it just didn't work.

I might be as obnoxious as the spammer and PM the admin and the mod with your complaints. If they don't get the message, then go elsewhere.

.....Or what I would probably do if nothing was resolved would be to register with some (Quite a few) new pseudo names and rag on the troll with each new login.
Hopefully, he will respond and irritate most everyone. At some point the admin will clean things up or give in to the troll. (..I didn't say this. I wasn't here.)

You might also suggest a newer and more secure forum software to the admin. I wouldn't let it ride if you value that forum.

Thanks, solid advice, Red. The forum is a vestigal tail on a now-commercial site selling wine & travel destinations for a family once big in the motion picture biz.
From what I can suss out, the troll is working towards getting at those customer lists and card numbers, but the overall site is run by semitech minions who apparently don't want to bother The Great Man...
