  1. hi all,

I am new here, thanks for a good looking forum!

I have a CCTV camera which has a component (red white and yellow RCA) output, and am wondering if I can stream it around my house somehow. I know the camera is good as if I plug it directly to a TV as input, I get a good picture.

I have Raspberry Pis, a Windows or Linux laptop at my disposal and an "Easycap" component to USB device, but I'm really struggling to convert it to a stream.

I'm fairly technical and able at CLI, and welcome any kind of advice on how I may get a URL with a stream for this video output please.

    thanks in advance.

Linux will be useless as you only have windows drivers for the easycap device.

    You need to seup

1: Install easycap software and drivers then reboot ... do not connect the easycap device until reboot has been done.

2: Setup vlc to connect to the easycap and read this to setup streaming

3: You need a wireless router ... thou a laptop should be able to do this their not as powerful ... for setup go here to determine ports needed to allow vlc to stream video.

Once the correct settings are done you should be able to connect to the chosen url without issue to view streaming video ... how far you can go away from the router will depend on other variables.

    And welcome to forum

The yellow cable is composite video. Component video uses three cables just for the video.

There have been many devices called Easycap. Many of the ones that are sold for ~US$10 don't work (the seller banks on the fact that you won't bother returning such a low cost item). Are you able to view or capture video at all with your device?

thank you for your welcome . This stage is the bit i'm having problems with, I can't get any video output from VLC, but to answer :

Are you able to view or capture video at all with your device?
I am not sure whether I have ever seen video out, but feel like I could have done when using Ulead software which came on a CD with the device. I can test that tonight to make sure. It was indeed a cheap device.

BTW yes sorry I meant composite instead of component.

By the way what I should have said in the OP is that i'm happy to buy more stuff like a new capture card if required!
