HI,
Can anyone offer advice on the following.
I am making a short video for a teaching assignment and want to join a load of short .mp4 clips together but need them joined with static or snow storm as if the video has been damaged.
The idea is that the video is from a recovered Flight Recorder off of a crashed UFO. The clips will be made using an iPad App Morfo.
What Software can I use for this and how do I get the effects?
For the editing software platform I have a MacBook pro and Windows 7 and XP.
Looking for something for free (aren't we always)

So, to recap, you have a computer, but no editing software and no clue about anything? And you want something free. I would suggest you start off with FCPX. It's not free though.
FCPX is "Unpresidented" power for the next generation. It even says so on the label. That's gotta work.

Use windows and Aviutl (free) and it has a Snow effect filter that is fully customizable. You can also create snow effect by making random white noise on a black background and overlay with "Screen" blending mode.
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........ -
Thanks,
I have captured Video Tape to AVI and made a few small videos using iMovie and Windows Movie Maker and use Handbrake quite a lot, but I have never joined clips together with the effects that I want.
I'll try the Windows option as I guess Final Cut being an Apple product is gonna cost a small fortune. -
Actually, FCPX is extremely inexpensive for its capabilities -- that's because Apple also sells the mac you need to use it.
You can probably capture some some "snow" directly from your VHS and edit it together in either iMovie or Windows Movie Maker. If you want to get a little more sophisticated on a PC try Vegas Movie Studio. Aviutl which racer-x recommends is quite powerful and you can't beat the price, but I find it a bit unintuitive personally.
