i use toshiba satelite p-70a laptop win 8.1 to download movies convert them thru div-x plus converer to home theater format at default values.
my t.v. is "samsung plasma" 42inch model ps42s5h and store my movies on a re-formated external disk to play back on the t.v. using "singsung" dvd player model dh-111.
my problem is that there is a drastic deterioration in video quality played on the t.v. while on the laptop it is crystal clear both in audio and video. other subscribed channels on the same t.v. dont have this problem.
kindly help me solve this problem.
thank you.

WHy not connect your laptop directly to your tv?
You will lose quality by reconverting to divx. Especially if you convert from HD(1080p) to SD(720x540) video. -
thank you for the suggestion and truly its a lot easier that way.
but judging by our lifestyles at home this is impracticable. there is one person at home who watches, selects movies and downloads them. then another one does the converting- and then when all of us have free time we as a family sit down together and watch the movies - the end result of our teamwork creativity. we are all novices and feel sad when we find the results disappointing. so my request is still there. if there is somebody out there to be able to help us out in this matter. maybe a different approach with different software. i am ready to learn if somebody takes me step by step.
thank you all.

You can try choose highest quality settings in the divx converter and see how it works and looks.
Do you have any idea what video formats your singsung player supports? Just divx/avi? Maybe it's better to get another standalone media player that plays everything.
Can you post the details from one of the divx/avi you have created. Use mediainfo, open video, change to view->text and copy everything. -
I don't get it, what has all that to do with preventing to connect the laptop directly?
You want quality, then don't re-encode! And particularly do not re-encode to an second rate codec, instead hook up your laptop directly.

If your source is HD the Home Theater profile will reduce the video to SD. Post short samples of your source and converted video. Then we can tell if something is wrong with the conversion.

thanx baldrick.
i will take up your suggestion first. just checked my "singsung" customers handbook and it supports MP3 MPEG-4 and JPEG. am not an expert but i guess it looks too limited. so what i will do is first try out a more versatile media player. but then for me the question is which type? pls. suggest the specifications. plus have already downloaded div-x 10-2-4 version and will convert at its maximum settings and keep my fingers crossed....!!!
as for posting samples of my source and converted videos i am sorry but i dont know how to do that. have just started using a pc and my skills are limited.
all the best and i really appreciate the response and encouragement that i am getting
