Vob file AUDIO help

I have started using a USB stick with VOB files on to watch Video on my Upstairs TV. However some of the VOBS playback with no AUDIO. Im assuming its the AUDIO file format and my TV that wont play them that is the problem. How can I find out what format the Audio track is on my VOB files, and Whats the best tool to convert them. Is it a case of Demux/convert/Remux, or is there a tool that can sort it in one action. Thanks for any advice

Even if it is just the audio that your TV doesn't like, change the audio but don't put it back into a VOB container. VOB files are useless outside of the DVD "environment".....just change/re-encode the audio in something like AviDemux and output to a straight MPEG2 file(MPEG-PS option in AviDemux). You can COPY the video in Avidemux(no re-encoding) and just change the audio.

MediaInfo will tell the audio. DTS? It's optional on a DVD so perhaps more than one audio track.

The VOB file has an AC3 audio track. Im no expert in AVI demux, Can I simply import the VOB file into AVIdemux, the select COPY for the VIDEO output and select PCM for the AUDIO output.

Apparently my TV will also playback AVI files, which program converts VOB to AVI and is easily used, I may have to solve this problem using AVI files

Where did you get the VOBs? Are they part of DVDs?

VOB files only make sense as part of a DVD file structure. They may contain several video angles, audio and subtitle streams, chapters and so on. All these informations are stored in IFO files also part of the DVD.

Besides that, only the first VOB in a Title Set has a header; subsquent VOBs are headerless which makes it very dificult to play them.

Try to play the DVD as a whole instead of individual VOBs. If you must play the VOBS and you have a VOB sequence, at least join them all together in a single VOB. Use the copy command:

copy VOB1.VOB + VOB2.VOB + ... BIGVOB.VOB

This way, the big VOB makes much more sense then a VOB without header.

Well you need to establish what codecs your tv support for playback. If it accepts PCM for the audio you can attempt to re-encode the ac3 track.

But it may well be that the volume/frequency on the ac3 track is too low for playback in this manner so then straight conversion will hardly help. You have to apply enhancement filters first.

Also, AVI is just a container. The same questions apply as to the codecs the tv accept.
