  1. I would like to know if there is a way to burn commercial dvd's to a blu-ray disc. I understand that this won't improve their quality, I simply thought I could, for example, combine some tv show dvd discs onto a single bluray and they would last long since Blurays don't scratch. I thought it would save space on the shelf to, and since none of these shows are offered on bluray, I though it'd be nice. I don't know if this is possible. I don't know what programs to use to rip from the dvd and put on the bluray. And I definitely want it to work in a standard bluray player not just my computer. Can anyone help me out with this? I'd appreciate it.

    Couple of thoughts:
Yes, DVD-Video material (VIDEO_TS, *.VOB & *.IFO, etc) can be burned to BD media and possibly take advantage of the increased capacity. However, if you are authoring & compiling to DVD-Video spec, you still need to stay within the parameters of # of cells, chapters, titles, etc., so there is a limit of what you can combine.
No, BD media is scratchable just like any other media. even though it may have a harder coat.

Alternately, most of DVD-Video's SD material can be re-incorporated AS-IS (without re-encoding) within the BDMV spec (their limits still apply here, too).

    Apps:
AnyDVD + DVDDecrypter to decrypt & rip to Raw/demuxed streams
Reauthor using MultiAVCHD or similar (outputting to BDMV spec)

BD Rebuilder can also take multiple DVD's as input using the Quick Authored function. All the DVD-video folders have to be in the same larger folder in order for them to be included. This means you need decrypted DVD's all ripped to the same folder.

The menu made by BD Rebuilder is a little crude, but functional. You'll be able to select each individual DVD-video as a separate title.

Edit: Since it doesn't retain the original DVD menus, I'm not sure how well this program will work using episodic DVD's. You might have to rip each episode as a separate title in DVD-video format, and that's more work.

Ok but isn't that a one DVD to one Bluray? I'd barely be using the bluray's capacity right? I'm looking to transfer the contents of a couple of dvd's to the bluray

No that would be silly, and a waste of space. Did you click on the link provided by October262 and read the website?
"DVDFab DVD to Blu-ray Converter can merge, copy and convert many DVDs to one Blu-ray disc or one Blu-ray folder or ISO image file for backup or for playback with Blu-ray Player."

  7. If you use MakeMKV to rip the main movie only from DVDs (season discs can be separated by title), a great way to fill BDs at a fraction of the cost of DVDFab (and with full menu facility) is to use http://www.sothinkmedia.com/hd-movie-maker/

Just burn each file as a separate title.

Actually the DVD folders will suffice. It will import the titlesets from each VIDEO_TS folder.
