I never thought there are protections to VHS tape :o
I never had this problem before but any capture program I use, ATI capture, VirtualDUb or AV_IO will copy a portion of the tape fine but when I play it back, 5/6 of the screen is all green and a portion of the movie about 1/6 is showing at the top of the screen but thats it.
I tried different settings but giving me the same problem. I tried different VHS tape and it just records fine.
Is there a work around to this? Is anybody aware at all that there is such kind of protection on VHS?

OK i realize after searching that this is really macrovision i never heard of before.
But thanks to STINKY!! It seems like his patch is working. I tried to capture 3 mins of the video and i dont see the green stuff on it so I hope it works all throughout the movie :) -
Go to http://www.doom9.org/software2.htm#editing or search for ATI Macrovision Remover i havent tested it yet but i think you should try it.
(i believe its buggy, but im not sure)
If you want Daria (from MTV) released on DVD (all episodes) go to http://www.the-wildone.com/dvdaria/ or www.outpost-daria.com
also search on the web for Beavis & Butt-Head DVD Petition. -
Damn :(
Ineed the green part has been removed but in the last 15-20 minutes of the video, the color changed that made the movie so blurry and so many vertical lines :( :(
Oh piss off at this ATI, if i only knew :(
The Stinky tool doesnt complete get rid off that but i'll try the other way -
I believe ATI had to include macrovision detection support in the drivers in order to get some sort of license to include something else they wanted in this or another product. Stephen Orr (ATI) indicated that really had no option (other than a huge lawsuit being filed against them, no doubt), but said that he knew the customers would rather not have it, but that's the breaks. It's defeatable, so it's not the end of the world or anything. At least they put it in the drivers, and not hard-locked into the card...
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war." -
This is not ATI's fault, it's related to Federal Copyright Protection - all recording devices sold in US must include Macrovision Detection. Do you have XP or NT? I believe the Macrovision detection removal tool only works on these two, on my XP PRO it did the trick for me.
Note that the Macrovision comes from the source, so some VHS have it and some don't. Also older VCR's apparently don't pass along the signal, I cannot verify this. -
No worries guys
I am on XP Pro, the trick did not do for me
S i searched more and removed this ATI driver and installed Plutoniom driver as well as the Macrovision disabler. And now it works :)
I have captured the whole movie with no blurrying of images in the last minutes of the movie :) -
What is the Plutoniom driver ? Will this just replace the ATI drivers? Having the same problems with VHS Tape, Stinky's will not work on some of these.
Thnaks for th Info....

It's still based on ATI driver but modified and tweaked.
It was my last resort and it worked
Its just like Omega drivers, this time, somebody just tweaked it and named like that -
Here's a site I found that has more information on this driver.
If you like the modded ATI omegadrive drivers you're going to like these drivers by cyborg_studios. I found these drivers in the Rage3D Forums ! Quotes from cyborg_studios.
OK Fellas, I got them done, the Plutonium XP and Plutonium 2000 drivers are on the site!
The Plutonium 2000 3.2 Drivers are based on the 6043.
The Plutonium XP 6.1a Drivers are based on the 6043/6052.
OK here's what I fixed in Plutonium XP 6.1,
The OGL is from 6052, but the WinKey bug is fixed, Also the TV works without the PixelEffect like the X6. WDM's install right, unlike the X5. 1280x960 is still there, all refresh rates work.
PS: Plutonium XP 6.1a is up, should fix the TV/Monitor display problem.
And the Plutonium 2000 3.2:
The driver is based on 6043, with D3D/OGL from that set. Everything works better than the E5. (Hopefully)
The driver creates a temporary folder in the root of drive C: which can be deleted, but it is recommend leaving it there if you have 56K, as releases of patches and such which require some of the original files to be present in the C:RED folder.

It's called the"Digital Millenium Act" enacted by congress in 1998.
All vcr's made after 1/2000 have to have macrovision. -
