I am trying to extract a section from a damaged disc, The section I require is before the disc returns a cyclic error, when analysing with shrink ie DVD Shrink plays past the file I want with no problems during its analysis...BUT as the WHOLE disc cannot be read DVD Shrink wont let me extract the section I want.

Is there anyway of ripping this "good" section, without having to read the WHOLE disc...?

  2. I don't think so, but if the disc is physically damaged like scratched, scuffed or similar, you could always have it resufaced..

If damaged format-wise, not sure where to go from there..

    Two suggestions.

    1. Try dvd-decrypter to rip the disk. If the disk has chapter points you could just then rip the chapters you want. The program also has aggressive ripping techniques which might go pastthe read error. Als various settings for read errors.

    2. Try iso-buster.

You don't specify what you are using to extract. DVD Shrink? Something else? There is some chance that you simply have a disk with copy protection that DVD Shrink can't read. DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter haven't been updated in years so if your problem is simply that they don't understand the copy protection, you'll have to use something else. AnyDVD (not free) DVDFab (not free), DVDFab Passkey (may be free), or MakeMKV (can use it for free for the first 30 days - then remove it and re-install the next demo version - rinse and repeat to remain free) should all be able to rip if it's a copy protection issue. If nothing can rip, if you have a different drive you might find that using a different drive gives better results.

Just re-rip the whole disc & burn a new-one could fix the issue.
    ...and if not:
Then is more likely your disc is physical damage.

    P.S.
If re-ripping the original disc no got through the ripper program:
...Windex & your finger tips (using small circles movs.) could easily clean some of the small scratches in the writable surface of the old DVD. (Source)
...then rinse it with water and wipe the extra water off the disc surfaces with a cotton shirt, etc. (Use movs. from inside <--> out, backing-for)

    Good Luck.

I would also closely inspect the disc. If you see major scratches, then polishing or resurfacing may be a good choice. Programs like ISOBuster may be able to recover the undamaged parts of the disc, but nothing will recover the damaged parts.

Polishing out the scratch or scratches allows you to read all of the disc most times unless the reflective layer itself is damaged. Some audio stores can do re-polishing as they do it commonly on CDs. Or you can try your hand at it.

You also mention a CRC error. Those are more commonly from the DVD ROM or burner as the burned version is compared to the version of the file on the computers hard drive after it's burned. But it's not commonly a disc damage problem.
