Probably a DSLR for the 1st part. You can do these types of edits quite easily in any editing software - they are just fades in/out. There were some problems with duplicate frames (it was supposed to be "24p" but was 29.97 in that video, producing "jerky" footage)

Are you referring to the fade to black sequences?

If so, then any NLE worth it's weight in salt can do that.
