I am considering purchasing of a Canon G7X camera which takes 1080p/60p Full HD video with up to 60 fps.
I am also planning on purchasing a tv that has USB, HDMI and SD Card inputs or alternately a smart blu-ray or dvd player that I can either plug in the sd card and "push play".
I am hoping that whatever I purchase will be able to smoothly play the files in sequential order without needing any additional user input until all the files have completed playing. This is for my parents who are not technical gadget folks. I want them to record nice HD videos and be able to play them back later on a big screen.
I like the simplicity of the canon G7X in Auto mode and I am hoping to find a matching tv solution. I have considered the LG 46-inch smart TV based on the simple user interface but I am open to any suggested tv model that works! Sony and Samsung user interface menus are a bit complicated.

You will be happy with the LG.

My Samsung TV has USB ports and can play my Panasonic 1080/60p clips. You can put them in a folder, select the 1st one and it will play them sequentially. Same with Photos and music.

Thanks RacerX and Treetops. It has been difficult to find info on what devices play well together.
They all say they can play video but in reality it is trickier than it should be.
Have you used a dvd/media player as the port for the sd card? my 2013 panasonic blu-ray "smart" player does not read the sd card video (only audio).Last edited by nathancooke; 23rd Nov 2014 at 13:02.

I have an older Panasonic Blu-Ray player that can play video from an SD card only if it's formatted as AVCHD, otherwise no. You can test it out by inserting your card straight from the camera.

I took some 1080/60p video clips and saved to a class 10 sd card and purchased a card reader. Took both to tv store and tried the LG smart tv to see if it would play directly from the USB input (thru card reader). It seemed to work pretty well. The sd card was a new one and was formatted by the camera (probably as an AVCHD) since it shows up on the tv menu under a AVCHD folder.
As far as needing the 60p, you are correct. They/we do not need that level of data but it is what the sony RX100 camera records (my GFs camera). SO, my question is still if the Canon G7x camera (which supposedly records at 60p or 30p at 1080) will work on the tv I am getting ready to purchase.
I also tried playing the 1080/60p video back on a 2013 Sony Bravia tv using a insignia sd card reader plugged into the USB and the video quality was very good indeed. However, each video clip had to be started using the remote controller. Sequential and automatic playback would be very much better. I need to do more digging to find out if the LG can do the sequential playback.
