  1. I’d like to get a solid list of editor & filmmaker apps going in the Forum. Full disclosure, I cofounded a company called CTRL+Console and makes an app that turns the iPad into a controller for FCP & Premiere. So, I’m a firm believer in how helpful good apps can be for both novice & pro creatives. BUT with millions of apps in the stores, finding quality ones can be a bit of a chore…

What apps have rocked your filmmaking world? I don't want to limit this to any particular category, there's a lot to making an amazing film: planning, editing, storyboarding, logging footage, color manipulation, etc. Thanks!

Most of them. But it would help if you stated what type of video you plan to edit, etc.

Actually, I'm assuming you are asking only about pro video formats and programs, such as used for TV and movies.
    That's a much shorter list.

I routinely use about 20 different programs for video processing for quite a few video formats.
But those are for my own hobby use.

    And welcome to our forums.

  3. @redwuz: sounds more like he is looking for apps aimed at usage on mobile devices not for normal Pc/Mac/Linux programs.

Side note: I'm one of the guys who thinks for serious editing multiple monitors are needed, so other then putting some navigational controls on a tablet, using a tablet for editing and not just quick viewing seems more like a fashion statement to me than anything useful.

I find the term 'apps' very vague for what it might refer to. But that's probably correct that the OP is looking for portable device programs. Sorry.

Google maps. Helps you find the location.
No Budget Slate. It's a slate. On your ipad. Or iPhone.
    Sun Scout. Tracks the sun.

  7. @Redwudz :Thanks for kicking things off.

Yes, @Selur & @Redwudz, I meant applications that run on tablets or phones and could help editors and crossover filmmakers in the craft -so apps in film production and post. There's a lot of overlap and dabbling across mediums...

So, it could be something more informative but instrumental, like this FX how-to: The Animator's Survival Kit by Richard Williams.
Or simplified video editing on on the go using the iPad (like Premiere Clip or Pinnacle Studio from Corel).
Or Slate/Clapboard/Shot Log app like MovieSlate.

These are just a few that I know of, curious what others are using/have tried.

Well...since you mentioned it, if you're looking for an app that turns the iPad into a console that controls editing software (for Premiere & FCP), that's EXACTLY what my company built. If you'd like to see what I mean, check out CTRL+Console: http://ctrlconsole.com. The gesture control system takes the experience to another level - you don't have to be looking at the iPad to do basic editing, just simple intuitive gestures to jog, shuttle, in, out, inserting clip and moving from source to timeline, etc.

Hope you'll let me know what you think! This is first gen of the app and the response has been awesome.
