  1. i've just gotten a GearPro gdv285 and everything seems to work great. but when i try to watch videos on my computer, the windows video player only plays the audio.(quicktime player doesn't support it at all. so that's no help) does anyone know if i need different video software or if this is a camera problem?

  2. Try vlc or MPC. Use the portable versions and you wont have to go hunting for codecs. Everything is built in.

As per previous thread, your cam puts out Avc video and mono lpcm audio in an avi container. Wmp doesn't know what to do with avc within avi, qt only barely understands a few codecs in avi. No surprise really: Avc in avi is rare and not a good idea.

Follow transporterfan's suggestion for playback, or convert to something more common and versatile (either by re-encoding or remuxing, or both).
