Didn't know where to post this. also didn't know if anyone else has already reported it.
Went to NAB in Vegas this week. Microsoft unvieled the latest Windows Medea codec code named "Corona".
This will allow full screen video at very low bit rates.
It will allow full screen video streaming, at 30fps, w/o buffering.
Microsoft claims you can fit "several" 2hr movies on one DVD at DVD quality (of course, they can only be played on a computer).
My own estimates put an hour or more of DVD quality video on a 650 meg CDROM.
It supports 5.1 Dolby Digital.
Enables 720P playback on a PC.
Supposedly, Hollywood can encode movies for download that require a special Video Display card to un-encode, though that came from an Adobe rep, so I don't really know. He did say Premiere will have a plug in to export in this format.
Don't know when it will be out either.

I believe that we gonna see a lot of video formats the next years
There is a technology war out there....
Most of them, gonna focus on cabel/internet broadcast.
The only standard I know and it gonna be with as for more than a decade, is the DVB satellite transmissions.
Even DVD will change soon.
The war is just started! -
If you are interested in better streaming you might want to check this out

I'm interested in putting a full movie on a cd at better than SVCD quality!

Then go for DiVX...
VCD/CVD/SVCD/DVD are made to be watched through TV.
For watching a movie from PC, DiVX is the only way! -
As I implied in the opening post, MS claims full DVD quality on a CD-R.
And it'll be on most peoples PC's.
