I have tried everything - my final MPEG is always out of synch.

I must be doing something wrong. Here is a typical session -

    1. Rip using Smartripper
    2. Then use DVD2AVI
    3. And Lastly use TMPGENC

I always get a video that is CLOSE, but the audio is always a couple seconds off.

Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. I know I am close! Thanks.

  2. I used to have that problem also...Now I use VIRTUALDUB to extract the audio out of the AVI file..

Then use TMPGENC an open up the video for video source then under audio source choose the WAV file you extracted.

I have not had any problems since..

  3. Try disabling your screensaver setting, set your power scheme to ALWAYS ON, system standby to NEVER, turn of monitor to NEVER, and turn off harddisks to NEVER.

You can change these by going to control panel -> display -> screensaver.

In smartripper always rip in movie mode, not file mode. Dvd2avi can't properly handle the logos at the starts of movies and this often causes sync problems

Use dvd2avi 1.76, not a newer version. Anything after 1.76 has sync problems.

NEVER use dvd2avi to process your audio. Even the most stable version, 1.76, will cause sync problems on certain dvds. Instead set the audio to demux instead of decode. This will give you an ac3 file which you can convert to mp2 using a much better program like azid. I recommend you get besweet, its a gui for a collection of programs that will let you go from ac3 to mp2 in, arguably, the highest quality. Look for besweet and guides on how to use it at www.doom9.net.

For vcd its not much of an issue but if your making a svcd then you need to use bbmpeg to multiplex. TMPGenc does not properly add the svcd scan offsets, as far as I can tell, and this causes sync problems.

When testing sync in your mpg do not use media player, use something specifically designed for vcds and svcds, like a software dvd player or better yet, your hardware dvd player...thats what cdrw's are for.
