    GGtronic,..

Could you explain a little more on why you like the Window Encoder. I didn't think it would encode any format that would be usable except by Windows programs,... i.e., it won't save in .avi, MPG, MPEG,... only in formats that work in Windows Movie maker, etc.

Also, what makes it so great? Does it produce a smaller file size that direct encoding in MMC 7.6 to MPEG-2 or in better quality. IF so,... what gives it the quality. Are there any converters that will get it into TMPgen?

    Thanks in advance

  3. I couldn't get the damn thing to work.....had to roll back to 7.5. It hasn't got the DVD player, and when I installed it there was not TV Tuner, only composite capture!

I've got a Hercules Radeon AIW7500, like last week, so it's a fairly new card.....!

The VCR function works much better for me than 7.5...

But the TV on Demand function is almost useless for me. Damn thing gets lost in a file if I have it going for more than 90 minutes or so.
Picture quality of TV on Demand has sucked since 7.1. 7.6 is no better.

  5. what i like about wmv file is the compresion
not the quality . i use it to encode small video
that i have made , most of my contact are
56k modem ! so they want small file or nothing !
and all window media user who link to internet
can easily find driver for this automaticly

load the skidoo.wmv at this link to see a
    compresion result
    http://yvesauger.tripod.ca/

you need to get the proper software for your
    card .

i didnt try tv on demand ( dont use it )

the tuner work fine the first time ( after channel 's
    auto program )

  6. I tried the new MMC v7.6 last night - no good for me

MPEG2 captures played back at double speed. MPEG1 captures were jerky and went out of sync quite quickly. Also, the MPEG1 files didn't work when burnt as VCDs (picture break-up and audio problems).

So I chucked it out and went back to 7.1 - still has its problems, but at least I can make half-decent VCDs with it (on a good day).

I tried 7.5 when it came out and had big probs too. Not sure why it doesn't work for me.

    My system:

    A7V266
    1.4MHz Athlon
    ATI AIW Radeon
    Win ME
    256MB RAM
    40GB, 7200rpm HD
    onboard sound

Do I need a better sound card???
Why is this all so bloody complicated???

    suggestion

1-first bug would be your chipset (update )
    ( i install latest via 4in1 )

2-irq conflict , ati card need it's own irq
    no sharing is allowed

    3- your OS is unstable ( i run good old win98se )

4-need to install all ati software in proper order
    with other things needed

the proper uninstall and shut down operation
    is very important before re-install

    a-direct X 8.1 ( +8,1 capture )
    b-capture driver from ati
    c-ati display driver
    d-microsoft wmv encode +driver utility
    e-ati mmc7.6
f-ati dvd50 ( even if you dont need it )

reed all explanation on Ati web site
if you use all original ati stuff , just email them
your problem , and they will answer

I believe that installing all the newest ATI software together (Driver, Capture AND DVD player), MIGHT make things work better...

However, I have been noticing that after a good year or so of driver fixes and positive updates, the Radeon driver has taken a turn for the worse... I now can't open older (Windows 98) games in XP, even under compatability modes and 256 colors... THEY BROKE IT AGAIN!

Who knows what else they broke this round... having MMC 7.6 not work properly with this broken driver is not too surprising...

  9. I downloaded 7.6 from ATI. I like it better because the VCD capture is MUCH better. Results are still not up to par with the stand-alone conversion programs though.

Mpeg-2 captures at 352x480 work fine in my SVCD compat. Apex player. I dropped out of the VCD scene for a while after picking up my new Tivo, so now most VCD formats look terrible to me (because TIVO looks SO MUCH BETTER).

It also fixed the problem in previous versions where timers only worked with TV-Tuner. Now I was able to go into the registry before and change timers from tuner to s-video, but now it works as advertised.

The AVI capture to DIVx (in my situation) no longer has messed up audio sync issues.

I installed right over 7.5 with no problems. It detected a tuner, so the TV app worked right away. That way I retained all my custom settings. I hope that others have an easy time upgrading, because it is the first time I have been pleased with the product.

    Cheers,
    TJD
