I'm using Vegas 11 at the moment and I'm having a lot of issues rendering the output. Most of the templates I choose end up with the error "An error ocurred while creating the media file 2013-06-11.mp4. The reason for the error could not be determined."
I'm looking for something which can add text, arrows, shapes, etc onto AVI files so that I can render them for YouTube. Does anyone know of any apps like this?

VSDC Free Video Editor
Less likely to be a hog on system resources like Sony Vegas or Corel Videostudio
Dose it all:
Shapes need to be in PNG with alpha backgrounds (background not shown on overlay)
Installer requests install of two other products at end of main installation, simply click decline to both.
Once you get used to where things are found it's very simply
Cons : Apart from the additional crapware which you can decline, lacks various codecs for output
Pro's : For value it's had to pass up. -
I'd stick with vegas and determine just what's happening to throw the errors.
