Help please with Aiseesoft trim function,

Hi everyone,
This is my first post on videohelp,its a great site, my question is,i have just purchased Aiseesoft ipad converter suite and i have been working my way through the functions, i am having a real problem trying to use the trim function,
i have a one hour video that has couple of minutes at the start which i need to trim and two more segments in the middle,
it has only one chapter,i can remove the first couple of minutes but after that i get stuck, the instructions are a bit vague and i dont know how to proceed to finish trimming as i lose the saved bit which follows the couple of minutes at the start,i am quite elderly and i must be missing something along the way,so if anyone can put me on the right path i shall be very grateful indeed,thankyou very much for your time, Thomas.

I don't use that program, I checked the instructions you were talking about and they are really vague. I'm not sure what you mean by I lose the saved bit..., but assuming that the rest of the video or slide bar becomes greyed out after you select your first trim set, look around for a do it or apply button. Once the trim has been applied, you should be able to do another trim.

Thanks for your reply, when i trim the first two minutes i can click ok and the window goes and i am left with the small preview screen,the first two minutes have been trimmed when i press play,i then stop that and go to the main screen the slide bar has moved up the two minutes,thats where it gets to be a problem,just below the slide bar there are two scissor sliding tools i can put the left hand one under the two minutes and the right one under the start of the first adverts (ten minutes),i ok that and go to the preview screen again and i have lost the starting ten minutes,i cannot see any save options or move to folder options so i try again,alas, with the same outcome,wherever the left scissor goes the slider follows,

Editing digital video is much like it used to be with film strip; when you'd trim a piece of film you'd mean to keep one piece and throw away the other. In your program, the position of the left scissor is the start of what you want to get ride off; the right scissor is the end, everything between the 2 scissors will be removed.

To delete commercials between to segments of a show, you place the left scissor at the beginning of the commercials and the right scissor at the end.

There's a mention of 3 different crop modes, might be something like keep everything between the cut marks, everything outside or some other combinations. You'll have to experiment with that.

Thanks again for your help, i will look at the crop tool,i will just have to keep trying,i will post back if i manage to crack it.

nic2k4, Just a quick update,i have not tried the crop function yet, but on the trim its the video inside the scissors that is saved,i am going to have a go at the crop option now.

Yikes, I just found this guide and from what I see your editing options are limited. The crop function is not going to help you, they really mean a photographic crop.

It appears the trim function only keeps what's inside the markers, so doing multiple trims on the same video clip is not possible. There's a work around, trim a segment between 2 commercials and save it. Open the video again and trim the next segment... All you need is a way to join all the clips together, maybe you can do it in this program or another one included in the suite. Or, if all the clips are together in the ipad they might play in sequence. I can't tell from the descriptions at Aiseesoft.

For helping me,i managed to remove the adverts from the video like you suggested,the only way i could do it though was to remove the unwanted video from either side of the video,then the only way i could save it was to convert it so i could get it into the folder,i did this four times to complete it,then i merged it and converted it again,i know i must be able to save segments without first converting them,but i cant figure it out,i did get my tv show onto my ipad but it took a long time, have just got an email from Aiseesoft giving the same advice as yourself but gave me no information as to how to do it,it also added that a better version of the trim function will be in the next update, thanks again for sticking with it,very much appreciated.

Received an email from Aiseesoft saying that, at the moment converting each segment it the only way to do it,they also pointed out that they are working on it to allow for trimming of video.

Thanks for reply,i had forgotten about this thread,as you say there is a trim function on the software and as I have progressed a little bit it can be done,it was little difficult at first,i have not used it for awhile I will find a suitable disc and go through it again and practise,it does a good job once its mastered,i will post when I have done it,

Just as you say,then, if you have maybe four segments go back into the prog and when you click on the segments you will see just below them a merge button,press that and they becime merged underneath the original four.if they are not in sequence tap the arrows to the right of them and press up or down until you get them in order,make sure the original files are unticked or deleted so there is only the merged ones left,then convert,good luck tommy.
