DVD RIP Problem ???

Hey Guys,
I have been experimenting and reading all the guides for dvd ripping in the past week. I just burnt my first rip which was "The 5th Element" just as a test. Since this was my first trial I used a RW as not to coaster my only R at this time. I ripped using Smartripper,Then aligned the vts sectors using Ifoedit, made my TS_VIDEO folder and burned away. I used Prassi Primo_dvd for the burning since I'm told it checks the structure before burning. Anyway.... dvd would not play in my standalone Zenith DVD2200 which I can possibly understand because it is kinda old. But when playing the dvd in my pc it played back a little jumpy(kinda like dropped frames) and the lipsync was slightly off. Hmmmm.. So next I decided to play the movie vob's directly from hard disk using powerdvd40. Movie still played slightly choppy with lipsync problem just like my burnt dvd did. Now I am confused.......
Has anyone out there experienced this or have any idea what might be wrong ?? It took me a long time to learn how to make a good vcd. I thought making a plain old dvd copy would be easier.
Any help and/or comments would be greatly appreciated..

I have a dedicated pc for video projects only. No other stuff running on this thing. Specs are as follows:
Pioneer AO3 Burner
40gig 7200rpm hd
WindowsXP Pro
PIII 600mhz
512ram

I have successfully made two movies so far... Total Recall and Lady and the Tramp.
Both were ripped to a folder ( d:\backup\video_ts ) Not ts_video as you mentioned. This will not work... Anyway...
I then used PrimoDVD to burn the VIDEO_TS for Total Recall and it is great! I used InstantDVD to burn the VIDEO_TS for Lady and the Tramp and it too is good. I did not do any IFOediting. Not needed for a direct copy.

By the way... Total Recall is on a Pioneer DVD-R and Lady and the Tramp is on a Memorex DVD-R. Both work in all players so far, even old ones.

AMD Athlon XP 1800+
512MB DDR
Pioneer A03 with firmware 1.68
Quantum 40GB ATA100 7200RPM running Windows XP Pro
Seagate 80GB ATA100 7200RPM exclusively for video and pictures

I thought you always had to Ifoedit at least for the vts sectors.
Hmmmm. I have also been writing to RW instead of R because I
was testing. What did you use for ripping ? I am going to get another
dvd player this evening because mine just crapped out. Maybe that was
the whole problem. I'll do another test burn and see what happens next.

I think you only have to use IFO Edit if you change the VOB's in some way, like removing some or deselecting sound tracks. These two I copied were done this way...
Using SmartRipper, I went to the FILES tab and "Select All", then selected a location to store the files (any name, anywhere).
After the rip finished, I renamed the folder to VIDEO_TS. I then used InstantDVD to make a new DVD UDF disk and did a drag and drop of that VIDEO_TS folder into the InstantDVD project and then burned the DVD. I used the same technique with PrimoDVD and with both DVD-RW and DVD-R. My PrimoDVD died though...
Anyway, I use a Pioneer A106 Slot loading 16X DVD-ROM drive to do the Ripping. It usually takes 15 minutes.
Where I get caught up is when I have to recompress the movie to make a larger movie fit onto a 4.5GB disc... Have you attempted this yet?

Oh, I forgot to tell you too. I use a JVC XV-723GD (or something like that!) to view on my TV. I have noticed the brand of DVD makes a big difference. Memorex and Pioneer are A-OK. Princo ($3.50 each) do not work on the DVD player, but do on the PC.

All is well !!!!!!!!!!

Even though my rip looked a little "shakey" when playing back from
hard drive with dvdproXP, the burn came out perfect. I believe the whole problem was my dvd player was dying. I just hooked up my new Apex AD-1100W that I got this evening (can't beat the price) and everything played just fine, menus and all. I feel much better now after spending $500 smackers on my Pioneer burner. I used a memorex rw in this case.

No, I have not yet tried taking a dvd larger than a dvd-5 and picking it apart to make it fit but I can't wait to try. If you attempt it let me know how it turns out. I have all the guides printed out on how to do it but just havent ran across a dvd-9 that was too big. However, after ripping one of the discs from Pearl harbor it turned out to be over 7gigs. I guess it would be a good one to practice on. Anyway.. the rips and burns I am doing are all on dvd's that I already own that I bought so I just keep erasing the RW and try something else as practice and learning.
