  1. I've got a couple HD DVDs that I'd like to convert to mp4. Is there a good guide for doing this? My Xbox with HD DVD drive is starting to get flaky and I can't watch the movies any more. Plus, I don't want to buy another with the new one coming soon. These are movies that are not available in Blu-ray. I thought maybe the best option would be to convert them to mp4s, but don't have a clue how to do it. Someone suggested running it through RipBot, which I did, but the audio was off 10 or so seconds. Thanks for any help.

You might look at the guide here which describes the process in detail. Perhaps there is a step you missed that caused the audio problem.

Do note that there is NO WAY AT ALL to convert HD DVD menus to BluRay. You will have to convert any videos you want to keep one at a time and then do whatever you want with them (ie. keep them as MKV files, make a new BluRay out of them, etc.).

  3. Thanks for the reply. Did I miss something, but that guide looks like Blu-ray to mk4, which I already know how to do. I'm looking for HD DVD or .evo to mp4.

  4. I got one at least. I ran the evo file through MKVTool and then tsMuxer before RipBot. It came out perfectly with the audio in sync the whole way through. That was the Jerk, which is a single evo file. My method failed on some other HD DVDs that have two evos. Someone suggested MeGUI, but I don't know anything about it. Is there a guide for MeGUI? THanks for any help.

Sorry. I clearly read you say that you were going from HD DVD to MP4. I'm not sure what the heck happened, but yes, that clearly is a guide for BluRay ripping. Sorry about that. I took another look and didn't find a guide here specific to HD DVD ripping.

    Here's a MeGUI guide.

  6. MakeMKV will do a lot of HD DVDs apparently. Not all though. Worth a try. Use something like Video to Video, YAMB or Xmedia Recode to change containers or convert to XBox format.

  8. OK, I put the HD DVD folder into MakeMKV, which made a huge mkv. I converted the mkv to m2ts using tsMuxer, which gave me an error message about some of the tracks being missing, but seemed to do the job. Finally, the m2ts into RipBot, which worked flawlessly on the two I've done so far. Thanks all for the help.
