Hi. I've just downloaded, via torrent, an episode of the Ricky Gervais comedy 'Extras'. This is the mediainfo data:
Complete name : F:\Extras (BBC) - 3 - Ricky Gervais & Kate Winslet.avi

Format settings, Matrix : Default (H.263)
Muxing mode : Packed bitstream
Codec ID : XVID
Codec ID/Hint : XviD

Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.169
Stream size : 204 MiB (88%)

The picture quality is absolutely superb despite the rip being less than 1000 Kbps. Whenever I convert a DVD (I usually use xmediarecode) I have to use at least 2000 Kbps for satisfactory quality and even then it's nowhere near as sharp as this download. Can anyone suggest how it was done?

Maybe you should reaquaint yourself with the the forum rules:
Warez rules
What is warez? Obtained movies/tv-series/tv-shows/software either through download, torrent, etc that breaks the copyright.
Do NOT talk about warez releases
Like filenames Movie.2012.DVDSCR.X264.AAC.P2P.mkv. Please don't download warez movie/tv releases.

It's possible that with the proper prep and processing, that video might be watchable to some extent...more or less. But "absolutely superb" ? ? Mmmm...No. Now that the word "awesome" has lost all meaning and importance, let's start working at making "superb" mean even less. That's not lowering the bar, it's burying it.

I downloaded part of the video. I saw nothing special about it. About normal for 640x368, 25 fps, Xvid at 1000 kbps. DCT ringing, macroblocking, oversharpening halos, buzzing edges, posterization artifacts from strong temporal filtering, etc. I don't know how you could call that "absolutely superb".

That's just what I was thinking too.
I know you're not supposed to discuss warez, but I've seen warez video that had 10/10 user rating on the torrent site. It was wretched. And not even a low bit rate.
I figured either they watched it on their phone or they're just idiots.
