    Hello Everyone,
I was given a DVD with 4 videos and wanted to make a copy of it. The DVD had a single menu for video selection. Problem is, when I tried to copy the DVD with DVDDecryptor, the application started showing read errors at 84%. I tried several times and the disc is clean. Below are the last few lines of the log file:
    I 12:16:13 Found VOB File: VTS_04_1.VOB - (LBA: 1522256 - 1943558) - KEY: N/A
W 12:18:50 Failed to read Sector 1646048 - Unknown (CRC or ECC Error) (0x10, 0x90)
    I 12:19:35 Abort Request Acknowledged
E 12:19:41 Failed to read Sector 1646049 - Unknown (CRC or ECC Error) (0x10, 0x90)
E 12:19:42 Failed to Extract Sectors!
    E 12:19:43 Operation Aborted! - Duration: 00:27:33

I was able to play the first three videos from this disc on my DVD player and was wondering how I can extract just those three videos from the original DVD and burn them onto another DVD? A menu to select the three videos would be great but I'd be happy with just the three videos authored to a DVD too. I tried the steps at https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/255321-Can-DVD-decrypter-extract-chapters-into-MPEG-format and got a single .IFO and a single .VOB file but wasn't sure how to author a DVD from them if that's even possible? I also saw instructions at https://www.videohelp.com/tools/Simple-DVD-Creator and will try that but again, I'd like to have a menu if possible with freeware. I know DVDflick offers this however in the 8 or 9 times I've used it I've always had audio/video sync problems. FWIW, the three videos I want to copy are 1 gig each.

Thanks for any info you can provide!

In dvd flick can you choose not to reconvert dvd/mpeg streams. It might help with sync issues.

You can also try reauthor the vobs with dvdstyler, guifordvdauthor, dvd-lab, tmpgenc authoring works, etc.

Thanks for your reply. I ended up using FAVC, I'd forgotten I had it on my system and figured I'd give it a try and it worked great. I'm wondering though, I used the best quality encoding parameters for HCenc, is that considered lossless encoding? The original video I'm working with is from poor quality VHS transfers so I'm trying to keep as much picture quality as possible. The size of the original 1st video was a little over 1 MB while the same video after being run through FAVC/HCenc was a little over 1.4 MB. Also, the picture quality of the encoded video seemed to be the same as the original so I'm assuming there was no loss of quality? I'm not very familiar with how these encoders work and just want to be sure.

    Thanks!

  4. Honestly if i were you I would copy everything I could to the hard drive.

Basically if you could copy over these needed files:

ALL files that end in .ifo and .bup (and this includes the ones from title 4 giving you the trouble)

copy over (if you have it) - VIDEO_TS.VOB

and going from what you wrote all the files from these titles:
VTS_01_1.VOB (and continue with them until you get to VTS_04_1.VOB -dont copy that file set)

so in the end you essentially copied over every file from your dvd except for the title set (in your case 4) of where your errors occurred

you can then use freeware such as vob blanker or pgcedit (or payware dvdremakepro) to fix your issue without re-encoding and losing any quality. If you have copied all the .ifo and bup files the programs will tell you that the title set 4 is missing so you would just "blank" out title set 4 and save your disc

now you will have your exact disc with no quality loss and without title set 4.

the method you previously used (favc) re-encodes your file. The method I listed above will not (since it is more so a copy/paste and fix the info in the ifo files and re-saving it)

PS: the payware isobuster would work to, but in that case this wonderful program will overwrite the sections of the disc giving you a problem with dummy data numbers. This would enable you to recover as much as you can from the problem file and since it writes dummy numbers over a troubled section, you could still burn and watch it (though where it did have issues you might get a screen of black but it will play right through it technically fixing the issue)
