  1. Hey

I am obsessed with making anything I convert into 720 x 404 I also see a lot of videos online with the same resolution, if its HD I make it 1280/720 and that's the only one I do different.

I do it because It always fill out the picture on the TV og device I play my videos on..

    Then I ask..

Is this a good idea to just choose one resolution to go with in anything you do? i mean do it sometimes makes the picture look weird or chop something of importance out?

It depends on the source video's aspect ratio.

  4. should the aspect ratio error be 000000 at all times, or how does it work?

You are confusing a video's encoded frame-size aspect ratio (pixel aspect ratio, or PAR) with the video's intended display aspect ratio (DAR). Again, what you do depends on the video's original aspect ratio, which is not the same for every video. You can't expect a very wide 2.35:1 shoe to fill a 16:9 box without distorting the shoe to make it fit exactly in the box. Nor can you expect a smaller 4:3 shoe to fill a 16:9 shoe box without distorting the shoe to make it work.

I don't think he is confused about that. If you look at his other posts he stretches or crops videos to always fill his 16:9 screen. He's just looking for support for his bad practices.

You could be correct there. The O.P. hasn't indicated that all the videos are supposed to be 16x9, but earlier posts seem to say they are. In any case, I'd rather retain original borders than soften a video with resizing that makes such small corrections. Even a good HD original would be affected to some extent. But many people don't see a difference.

  8. Oh, sorry. I think I have JackDanielZ confused with someone else. That other person insisted that all movies had to use the full frame of his TV. He refused to watch anything with black borders.

That's exactly right, my question comes from that I have started to use Xmedia Recode and the newest version is really good and stable, only thing I don't like is I can't choose my preferred resolution in that program. (720x404)

@jagabo, yes there are several concurrent posts around with similar issues. Confuses everyone, I think. Most have posted scant samples so the matter gets a little vague. JackDanielz, you're referring to the soccer videos you posted earlier? Or to all video in general?

My take is that there are well-defined standard frame sizes and aspect ratios for SD and HD video. To prevent playback problems with various hardware/media players I adhere to those frame sizes and display ratios whenever possible. I'd prefer that video displays with the proper image DAR. Not concerned about video not completely filling a 16x9 screen. But not everyone works that way. You might show a specific sample and explain what you want to do.
