I recently bought an AMD FX-8350 8-core. I was disapointed with it's speed. It seems bearly faster than my 1090T Thuban overclocked to 3.8Ghz. I even slowed the vishera to 3.8Ghz and got the same conversion BR speed as my 1090T. What saves the Vishers is it can be overclocked to 4.6Ghz on air cooling. Why did AMD abandon the Thuban core? It seems to be faster than the current Vishera core. Would an 8-core Thuban been possible?

Because they can't afford to fab both 32 and 45 nm processes. Shrinking an old 45 nm part down to 32 nm is not simple.
