According the the info on the tsmuxer download page:
Supported subtitle types:
M2TS Presentation graphic stream.
SRT text subtitle
Try Clown_BD. I don't think about subtitles much but according to it's download page it supports Bluray subtitles so I'd imagine it supports DVD subtitles.
How are you ripping the DVDs? Unless you're ending up with an MKV because you're using MakeMKV to rip them I'm not sure why the need for intermediate MP4/MKV files. Or are you converting as well as ripping? If not you should be able to rip the original vob files and remux them as TS files. -
Good old warhorse DVD Decrypter allows ripping of any subtitle, audio or chapter stream you'd like to keep from the DVD into a single VOB file. VOB should be remuxed to TS, but tsMuxer doesn't include this kind of subs.
I normally just rename those VOB file to TS, should be close enough for most purposes. VLC plays them flawlessly with selectable audio and subs, so does my Sony TV.
MakeMKV does quite the same, but creates an MKV which can't be just renamed to TS and therefore has to be remuxed to TS.Last edited by Lowlander; 20th Jan 2013 at 06:58.

The trick with renaming vob to ts doesn't do the job as I basically get ps container...
Though it's playable by most players - I'm looking to use the file for a VOD system and would like to have trick-play..
Anymore ideas??
Thanks! -
Your "trick" will be to figure out how to use subtitles.
TS is very similiar to M2TS.
You could use multiavchd to make the convert..I am not sure if it will handle the subtitles.
You see, you need to convert subs to be used in a blu-ray type structure.
What are you planning to play your completed files with? -
Would like to use the TS with IPTV STB... for VOD.
multiavchd - I can probably extract the subtitles - but it won't be easy to mux it back with the correct timing. -
I didn't know Clown_BD only does HD. Try the HD-DVD/Bluray Streams Extractor instead. It'll definitely open vob files and I assume extract the subtitles. There's a link for it on the eac3to download page (I think).
Of course it still leaves you with the same problem, converting the MKV file to TS, but there's similar tools to tsmuxer (links on the tsmuxer download page) so one of them may work with DVD subtitles.
