  1. so I have a dual boot of win 7 and win 8 on the same laptop. Now without moving the laptop, when I switch to windows 8, I pick up more wifi signals than I do I'm my win 7. Why would this be?

  2. Are you actually picking up more signals? Or are you just getting more bars?

i have a similar problem, i can only pick up maybe 10 with windows built-in 'view available wireless network' list xp home, but on my netbook, i get about 30 hits, xp pro. both computers are old.

edit: i found the details, from my last delphi wifi network listing project..

i believe it has to do with the software and how it retrieves the details, and might be related to the TCP/IP IPv4 and IPv6. my desktop pc under xp home may be using the IPv4 method, while my netbook under xp pro may be using the IPv6 to pull the info. otherwise it could be that the software's [scanning duration rate] value is lower, so it is reporting lessor networks in your wifi range.

  4. More than likely a driver thing; go to the wifi card manufacturer site and download the latest drivers for W7.

  5. check networks around you with some specialized tool like for example http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/
