Okay i've done a few dvd rips to svcd and i've seen a few on the scene the max i can get out of an mpeg2 file to a 80min cd is 39mins 59 secs though i have seen a few svcds at 54 and 55mins what am i doing wrong? I rip with smartripper and encode with tmpeg quality is good but i think it is the bitrates that make the size anyone know how to get even 50mins of mpeg2 on one 80min cd??

You got it! It is the bitrate. Bits/sec x sec = size.
Under tools try fooling around with a bitrate calculator.
I tried the top one for svcd 55min movie, 1 80min cdr,
96 audio, gave me 1872 avg bitrate. That shouldn't
look too bad after a VBR encode.
