    Hello there.

I have a French movie on BD (German release, even), and it has no subtitles. I got a great English subtitle track from somewhere, so my question is simple: How do I apply these subs to the Blu-ray video?

I only want to make a new BD with the video and the French language track, plus the subs of course. I have them in SRT format and they're already timed really well. I don't care about menus or anything like that.

Is this possible on a Mac? Preferably with free software. If not, then Windows suggestions would be great as well.

I once put subs on some Bleach and Touch dvd's, but that was a looong time ago...

Maybe tsmuxer. You can open the main movie m2ts or playlist file, add a srt subs output a new m2ts. I don't know how well the mac version works though.

Or try multiavchd, avchdcoder or bdtoavcd in windows.

Thanks very much for these suggestions. I finally got around to buying that BD drive.

Tsmuxer doesn't seem to work though. I've tried ripping to mkv and ts files, and all I get is 'can't detect stream type'.

Argh. It as the Korean fonts playing a trick on me. It didn't sound like it was the same problem so I figured it wouldn't help.

So I made it all work, I thought.

When tsMuxer has applied the subs, they don't work properly. Only about half of the subs actually show up during playback. This happens when using MakeMKV to rip the main movie and the language track of choice, and then applying the subs using tsMuxer. On both Mac OS X and Windows XP through VM Fusion.

Funny thing is that it works just fine if I play the MKV file in VLC and apply the subs on the fly. My Boxee Box does the same thing without a hitch as well, although I'd probably need to get an ethernet cable in it to be able to stream Blu-ray bitrates without constant buffering.

Any suggestions would be GREATLY welcomed. Should I use DVDFab instead, maybe? Any other ways to apply subs than tsMuxer? I'm quite convinced that the subs are fine, since they can be applied just fine on the fly.

Once again I had a nicely timed set of subs to put on a different movie, but when I mux it more than half the subs don't show up! Is there really no one who has a suggestion as to what's wrong?

The 'funny' thing is that some horribly timed subs for a different movie worked fine. I just couldn't figure out how the hell to time them properly (or I just didn't feel like it). All the damn subs show up after muxing though.

multiavchd wants to re-code the video, which is completely unnecessary, avchdcoder crashed and bdtoavchd doesn't actually support the implementation of foreign subtitle tracks.

I tried converting the subs to .sup/PGS and now they all seem to show, although VERY briefly so it's impossible to read them. Any suggestions as to how to solve this new problem would also be greatly appreciated.

Multiavchd won't re-encode the video unless you specify it or if you set the project to ntsc and the video is pal or vice versa.

It crashed when it got to the subtitles anyway.

EDIT: Rather, the process failed when it got to the subtitles.

Multiavchd would crash for me if there was a problem with the subtitle itself, try multiavchd with a different subtitle.

I don't think I got to add a subtitle stream before it crashed on me. Or rather, Windows said it crashed and showed me a ton of those dialogues that says something crashed without the program actually shutting down. I had to close it forcefully.

Is it safe to assume that if the subs don't work in VLC they won't work if burned to a Blu-ray disc?

I did it. I tried multiAVCD again and managed to make it work. It split the files so they would fit on a FAT32-formatted USB stick that my Oppo would read, and the subs worked just fine there. I burned the disc using imgburn and now I'm kind of psyched

I bought an Xbox 360 HD DVD drive to rip the movie Accepted, which hasn't been released on Blu-ray. I managed to take the english soundtrack and the video file and make it into a Blu-ray compatible structure quite easily, using the tools above.

It's 29.97 though, and my Oppo BDP-83 doesn't want to convert it to 23.976 like an HD DVD player would. Any tips on how to convert the framerate on a Mac?
