Newbie here with new camera.....
Using a Shure PGX Wireless mic as input to this Canon VIXIA HFM41. The equipment is "on loan" to me so I have no experience with it.

The wireless mic base unit has both line level and XLR mic level output. An appropriate line level cable was supplied me (with the camera and wireless) and since the camera had both "mic" and "line" external input settings we tried the line input.

While test recording we monitored with headphones (on the camera) and sound level was good. The on screen "metering" (level indicator) was indicating as expected (peaking but just barely and rarely).

HOWEVER... Upon playback the audio was so low it was barely audible. Lot's of hiss too.

We made an XLR cable and used XLR out with mic input setting on camera and everything worked fine.

My Concern...
With line level input, why did headphone monitoring and metering indicate all was OK when playback result was no audio? I now feel that I cannot trust headphone monitoring nor the audio level meter on the camera.
I've done quite a bit of audio work over the ears and this is the first time ever I've had "meter" and "monitor" NOT reflect reality....
