  1. Kinda off topic, but does anyone elses cake boxes smell like some sort of freaky flowers when they open them or is it just these Memorex DVD+R's that I buy.

It's the strangest smell, my guess is the dye that they use. Do all cake boxes smell like these or just these memorex's that I buy?

I can't believe I just went and smelled my Princos.

Sorry--couldn't smell anything, beside a very vague "plastic" smell.

  6. For some reason, they smell a little like celery to me.

  9. My Prime -R 4x dont have a smell, coincidentally about 10 minutes ago my kid opened a cake box of 100pk CD R's (TDK) and smelled them and said they smelled like bad maple syrup. I say the smell like dog piss on an old carpet.

I found this thread because my DVDs smell weird. I didn't notice any smell from them at all while I was using them recently, over a couple of days, in fact. Then, yesterday, I put the discs of an earlier image away in the holder to make space in my travel pack. I had a lot of space so I put my lens cloth in the top of the holder to hold the discs down. This way they won't rotate while I'm walking around with them in my pack. Rotating makes them scratch up and degrade. Anyways, I went to get my lens cloth to cleans my glasses, and smelled something horribly like piss. I looked around in my bag and couldn't find it. I resumed cleaning my lenses and discovered the cloth smelled like piss. I got worried that the cloth was in a coat pocket with a vitamin when it got rained on, that's happened before, it makes things smell like piss. Anyways, I was worried about the corrosive effect it might have on my DVDs. I went to inspect them, and dear god, the DVDs smell absolutely like horrible urine. The cloth, being in the air a moment, is already clearer. It's the DVDs. They smell strongly of some kind of animal urine, like cat or dog pee. They didn't before. The only thing I can think of is that I placed those image discs in there, and that something's happening with that. They had some ink on them and I just set them together platter-style, I didn't think about putting them ink-side-to-ink-side. Maybe the ink is reacting with the plastic? Anyways, it's horrible. I found this thread because I looked for "new dvds smell like". What an interesting thread. Just wanted to share all that, thanks.

If you were trying to set a record for grave robbing an old thread, you're not the champ around here.

Dude, just leave old threads alone. After almost 9 years, it's not really relevant or interesting to have you basically say "I had the same issue". I strongly suspect that this is nothing more than a juvenile attempt at humor rather than a serious post. So thanks for nothing.

  14. I loved the smell of a freshly open BASF chromdioxid II cassette.

My DVDs smell like a flock of goats sweeping down from Mount Gilead...
Seriously though, I once bought a cheap cable (stereo male RCA to same) from the dollar store just to see if it had any quality to it whatsoever (it didn't). But what it did have was an incredibly strong smell of cheap perfume; or maybe candy or some cheap kids drink. The smell was so annoying, I tracked down the cable and threw it out the door to rid my workshop of the exuding odor.
PS. Sorry JMAN98, I couldn't resist. Apologies also to King Solomon.
