. . . has become painfully slow, the last couple days. I hope this is just a temporary artifact of Black Friday online shopping traffic, or something of that nature.

@seeker47 - have you completely unplugged your modem and restarted it yet? That might clear it up.

Other than that it might be time to bite the bullet and call your service support. Better have a book to read while you wait for customer support though.....

    Good luck.

What kind of speed do you get if you download a file from the site? Like https://www.videohelp.com/download/AVCHDCoder%2011.12.27%20Setup.exe

Or maybe some thirdparty banner that takes forever to load.

The site appears to be exploited again.

    The www.videohelp.com is fine.
However, forum.videohelp.com has livejasmin (porn) code running.
    And it's adding several seconds.

(I have livejasmin blocked in HOSTS locally, so it's not returning anything for me.)

That can't have been it: certain (few) sites were affected for me -- Earthlink is another, and that's one of my email accounts -- but most others show no signs of this. Hardware or connectivity problems are not so selective in that way; the problem would be much more pervasive. OTOH, I can't rule out some sort of issue with my service provider, TWC.

While this was going on, basic site functions like navigating to a given page or posting a reply were taking forever.

Baldrick: I'll try your download test. Aside from that, is there some way I can run a specific speed test for connecting to this site, using one of the speed test services ? (But not one that requires joining something or establishing an account . . . .)

I can say that -- so far -- the situation is looking better this morning. (And, incidentally, this computer has been running continuously for 3 days, which is not the normal pattern here. So, it's not like there have even been any reboots, for anything.)

    About 2 minutes to d/l this, getting between 450 and 700 KB/s.

I am running NoScript and AdBlockPlus addons to FF, but I'm not seeing any obvious clues in their permissions lists for VH. (And the problem is not apparent at the moment.)
