I want to transfer (copy) a recorded 10 GB movie from the PVR of a Metz TV to a Mac Pro computer running System 10.8 (Mountain Lion).
I copied the movie from the TV to a USB stick formatted as FAT 32. I then copied the files from the USB stick to a folder on the Mac Pro desktop. The movie was automatically split into several smaller files.
A screenshot of the folder contents is attached.
I have been able to open and view the .ts file, but not the other files. They are of an unrecognised file type.
Is there a way to open, recombine and save the files on the Mac Pro as a single movie, or is this a Windows-only process?
Hope someone can help.

Automatically splitted? How?
Maybe you could just join them with for example http://www.hjsplit.org/mac/ . Or else split the files with hjsplit first and then join with hjsplit on the mac. -

It's a 250 GB PVR built into a Metz Linus HDTV. I haven't got any more technical data about the PVR.
The user guide states that when copying recordings from the TV internal hard disk to a USB storage device (FAT 32 format), "if the file is larger than 2 GB, it will automatically be split up on the USB storage device". The particular movie I am copying is 10 GB and has been split into 5 smaller files which are not recognised by any application I have tried on the Mac.
I'm sure the files are not copy-protected, as they are from a free-to-air broadcast. I have been able to port them freely to the Mac Pro via a USB flash drive.
The problem I am trying to solve is how to process them on the Mac, if indeed that is possible. It may be a Windows-only situation - I am just looking for further information. I generally have no problem processing Windows movie files. -
We've had other threads on similar devices and it ALWAYS has the same ending. The PVR's ability to put files on USB devices is a complete joke. The files are encrypted and nobody knows how to break the encryption and the files won't play on any PCs or Macs. The ability to put stuff on a USB stick is meant to either get it off the drive to free up space or perhaps to allow you to move it to another similar device a friend or relative might have and play it there, but it's not intended to let you copy the video to a PC/Mac or do anything useful there.
P.S. The fact that the files are free to air has nothing to do with the device making them encrypted and thus copy protected anyway.Last edited by jman98; 15th Oct 2012 at 07:13. Reason: Added PS

So an option I have is copying movie files from the TV to the Mac via USB stick, archiving them in a folder on a Mac hard drive - and when I want to watch them, copying them back to the TV and recombining them there - but it sounds as if I won't be able to do anything else with them.

I can't promise you that if you move files off the USB stick to another device (Mac or PC) and then later copy them back to a USB stick that they will still work. You will have to try and see.
Barring some latecomer with different information about your PVR, you are correct in thinking that you won't be able to do anything useful with these files. Hollywood demands that all PVRs, even in your part of the world, make it difficult for the owners to do anything useful with what they record and the manufacturers comply. I live in the USA and if I want to record something from my TV provider's DVR then I have to play it back and record it in real time to my PC via component video and optical audio. There's no other way to get the files off the DVR and onto my PC.
