  1. well I've run into a new problem, I've been downloading this anime from japan and converting it to vcd, burning it, and trying to watch it on my stand alone dvd player. I've tried both vcd and svcd and I get the same problem... Overscanning, in other words the picture is too big for the screen and you dont see the whole thing. The main problem is it cuts off half the subtitles so you can only read the top half of the text.

I need a way to letterbox the files so they are the same resolution and suitable for vcd, yet the viewable area of the show is actually less, and the remainder is filled in with black

I thought I found a way with xmpg but when I went to burn it, nero complained about the mpg, I said burn it anyway (because allowing it to convert it would undo what I did in xmpeg) and the vcd would not play right afterwards.

Also I lost alot of quality in the encoding process with xmpeg.

I also tried once to use ez cd creator instead of nero but every time I drag the mpg file over to it, I get a general protection fault.

Perhaps I just need a better burning program.

It could also be due to this combination of things that I can't control:
    1) my tv is just underscanned anyway
    2) the subtitled on this particular anime are too close to the bottom of the screen.

  2. You have to add rezise and add boarders in order to maintain aspect ratio. Fitcd calculates the right rezise and "take care of the overscanning".

    If you using Tmpgenc:
advanced tab: Video arrange method: center custom size:calculated size
video tab: size: enter video size (PAL vcd 352*288 ......)

This way you add boarders and maintain the aspect ratio

    Hope it helps
