I have an Mpeg4 file (Xvid) according to Gspot with AC3 audio. It doesn't play directly onto any of my players so i wish to convert it
I have tried converting to VOB and AVI with the following with no success
DVDFlick - Audio out of sync
Avidemux - Audio out of sync or no audio
Does anyone know of a fst and easy way with one piece of software. I don't really want to run through various programs if i can avoid this it would be great

That is unusual. Ac3 is one of the more fully compatible codecs out there.
What is you destination player?
You may need to look into AAC if you are trying for a tablet or smartphone type of device.
By avi what do you mean? You can simply remux the xvid into an avi without converting. Winff is one such program, just use the passthough preset.
Alternatively you could use something like avidemux and do copy video and select aac in the audio tab. It will leave the video alone and convert the audio only to aac so you can play it that way. You might be able to do the same in winff but I don't know how.
I'm fairly certain handbrake also has a video copy option and you can reencode just the audio. However I've only used handbrake for a full on conversion so I don't know for sure.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Avidemux is actually very good at dealing with odd codecs but sometimes it gets flummoxed. I've never used gspot ... does it tell you which actual codec/library was used? Mediainfo generally does.
Not all video or audio codecs are created equal. Some are definitely more compatible than others. That's one of the reasons I switched to linux ... windows has way more problems there. -
Probably looking at packed bitstream which needs to be removed before avidemux will handle it correctly ... if mediainfo reports packed bitstream use mpeg4modifier to remove it before trying to convert the ac3 audio contained in the avi.
Most general media type players only support xvid + mp3. -
I've converted a bunch of video files with packed bitstream using avidemux. It gives you a notification and asks you if you want to unpack it. I yes click no and convert anyway. Never had a problem. Not yet anyway. The only problem I've had with avidemux is weird stupid codecs, and it's way better than most there.

Hi
The original file is on my PC and plays perfectly no issues with video or sound. It won't play on my DVD players or Beyonwiz unit through the network. When this has occured in the past i have either used Avidemux to make it into an AVI which will play on my players or just made it into a DVD using Flick with no issues.
Occasionaly i have had a file, like this one, that doesn't work when copied to DVD or when converted with DVD Flick or Avidemux
I have tried your suggestion with Avidemux as video copy and Audio AAC. when saved as avi there is no audio?
I will try the other recommendations and let you know
I have considered investing in a bluray to see if this will then play on that machine but that would then mean i have to update every machine!!! -
