I did not know how to word the title to ask what I am needing so I will just go for it. Our school district wants to start a curriculum that incorporates video classes, broadcasting and whatever else seems to fit. The only problems is they don't really know what they want. They have asked me to do this project and have said it is my baby if I want it and to just go for it. I am going to try to visit other schools that have similar programs to see what they do and what they have tried. I want to see what has been tried and what has failed etc. Many of you being video people, what kinds of things did you have in high school and what would you like to see offered. I will take ideas no matter how crazy. Is there anything other info you would like from me to help you help me out? Thanks.

That's the point. There are many things but what seems to be the most important for entering college which will then prepare them for their career if that is what they are pursuing. This is what we (me) as a school is trying to find out. We don't want to offer things that are not important. Did you have high school classes offering anything dealing with video and broadcasting? We are starting from the ground up trying to figure all of this out.

They only had black and white little round TV's when I went to high school. Movie production classes were the only offered instruction class and those were rare and hard to find.

That's what it was like for me also. I am the video guru around here. Compared to many on here though I am a novice. I have done many things but everything with computers and video and such are all self taught. I am looking for advice from those that have gone through systems that have offered things like I am describing.

I haven't been a teacher, but I instruct "on-the-fly" many clients on how to do basic maintenance and virus protection on their machines. A lot will depend on what amount they will budget you? That will really be the defining factor just like everything else in life. My suggestion is to set up a course that gives folks who own computers the daily-life essentials of caring for their machines, basic memory test and replacement, hard drive test and replacement, formatting and partition basics, recovering lost data from a corrupted machine, installing and configuring an antivirus and firewall, and basics on how to remove viruses with the many free tools out there such as Hijack This, Malwarebytes, Super AV, Combofix, etc. Many are only aware of Internet Explorer for a browser, you could introduce them to Firefox, Opera, and other free ones out there. You could introduce them to free software that will do what they need such as Open Office for word processing and spreadsheet work (and any other good ones). Slant the course toward free software that will do as well (and maybe better) than the retail types, from screengrabbers to anitivirus. You could get source information from Freewaregenius and other websites. Just a thought....

Those kinds of things are already being offered. These are more advanced type of classes where video editing, broadcasting and many school related activities towards a career will offered all involving computers of some sort and possibly promotion of our school and activities. We have not yet decided on a curriculum yet but I am going to a school next week to observe and probably many more visits throughout the year.
