  1. Hi all,

I searched through the archives but couldn't find an answer to this question. I built a DVD image with DVDit PE, copied the VIDEO_TS folder over to a Mac with a Superdrive, and burned a DVD with Toast 5 Titanium - the lastest for MacOSX. Trouble is that the DVD I burned won't play or even load in any DVD player. Works great in PowerDVD, WinDVD, and every other PC and Mac DVD player, but it won't even load the main menu page in any stand-alone DVD player.

I used a DVD-R that I got from ESBuy. I think they rated it silver. It's definitely listed as general purpose. Should I try a different brand of DVD-R? Apple's DVD-Rs? ESBuy's gold rated DVD-Rs?

Are there any settings or tricks I should know about in Toast? I selected DVD from the 'Other' menu. I verified that the DVD was burned in UDF file format, not HFS+. The only thing that's on the DVD is the VIDEO_TS folder and its contents. Does there need to be anything else on the DVD? Any extra or hidden files?

    Thanks very much,

    Russell Neufeld

  2. it sounds like media problems, i have had the same problem but have now found unbranded media which works on all stand alone dvd players. Try a branded disc or another type of media is your best bet.

  3. So I tried burning the VIDEO_TS folder on an Apple branded DVD-R, which of course they claim works in a bunch of DVD players which they've tested. Same result. The DVD wouldn't play in a stand-alone player, but works great on a PC. Interestingly enough, if I'm on the Mac and play the DVD image off the Apple branded DVD-R or the unbranded DVD-R, the Apple's DVD Player crashes. However when I'm on the Mac and play the DVD image off the hard drive, Apple's DVD Player works perfectly. Not sure if that's a clue or a distraction.

Any other advice? Are there advanced settings in Toast which I need to set so that the DVD is created correctly? Do I need to put anything other than the VIDEO_TS folder on the DVD? Should I name the DVD a certain name?

    Thanks again,

    Russ

  4. when you are burnin the folder you are adding an AUDIO_TS folder with it arent you? It can be empty but most stand alone dvd players wont find the discs unless it can see AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS in the file structure.

Cant think of any other reason to be honest!
