  1. So I'm new to this whole video and subtitling world so please bear with me. My question is how can I merge .ass subtitles to a .avi. I've followed several tutorials but I seem to be getting nowhere. I have also tried combining them through Avidemux but after it encodes there are no subtitles to be seen. Maybe I'm not doing it right or something? Does it matter that in the file name the video says that its 704x396, but the subtitle file name says 1280x720? Please help! Thank you!

    Simples,
If you did indeed encode with AVIDemux then they should be hardcoded in the video. I just tried it with an SSA file and it hardcoded. I also used AviMux gui and it creates a separate track with subtitles which has to be turned on. Did you select a codec, then a filter and pick subtitle tab and then ssa tab and then your ssa file? And yes the size makes a difference. If your subtitles size (PlayResx and PlayResY) are 1280 by 720, the subtitles are going to be very small. It works like when you change your screen resolution. 640X480 and everything is huge. 1280x1024 and everything gets small.
I installed DIRECTVobSub which allows media player to display subtitles if the video and the subtitles have the same name (video.avi and video.ssa) in the same folder. You play the video and the subs display. If they are wrong size just change in the sub file and play again. Quick way to change the default size. It may just be the letters are too small to notice.
You have windows 7 or Xp? Let me know if this helps
    Thanks
