Mencoder stopped working during converting from mkv to avi

Hi, I am using free software "Alltoavi" for converting mkv files into avi. It works fine,but not with every mkv file.Yesterday I downloaded an anime and after like 10 seconds of converting I get error message where is written "Mencoder stopped working".How should I fix it ?

Discard Alltoavi and use AVIDEMUX

I tried ,but it doesnt really work very well with mkv files.At least I wasnt able to successfully convert my file

Ok I will better explain it again.I am using free software "alltoavi" for converting mkv files into avi. Just recently I discovered that it doesnt work with every mkv file.I wanted to convert some anime,but after like 10 seconds of converting I got error message where is written "mencoder.exe stopped working".I tried to compare the "mediainfo" informations,between those files which works,and those which dont.But I couldnt really find huge differences.And I dont really understand the most of those informations.How should I fix it ? What do you think is causing it?I would prefer to if you insted of suggesting a different convertors help me fix this problem.I tried a lot of them ,and alltoavi was only one with which I didnt have a problems .. until now.
