Choppy 1080p playback how can I solve?

Notebook Specs:

Dual core @ 2.2GHZ
3gb Ram

1366x768 Display
Mobile Intel 4 graphics card with 1.3 gb of memory

I use VLC player.

This particular video im trying to watch is a 7gb MKV that runs at 8mb bitrate. I get choppy playback. I had the same issue with BBC life episodes. How can resolve the issue?

You do some basic troubleshooting. First, check the Task Manager when the video is playing to see how much
CPU is being used. If it's very high (> 90) probably safe to assume the CPU is doing most of the work.

Find out if the Intel 4 graphics offers any kind of HW assist. If so, check VLC to see if it has a mode that uses
the HW, for example, DXVA.
