Yep saw the article on cnet - didn't copy the link but its out there.
I haven't gone to see phantom menace in 3d this time. I sorta wanted to but just didn't have the push to do it. I don't hate phantom menace like so many people seem to but its not my favorite of the prequels, I will admit that.
I will go see Attack of The Clones and Revenge of the Sith in 3d if only for the more elaborate lightsaber action and the great Obi Wan vs Jango battles in 2.
But Jurassic Park in 3d will be killer - literally!

Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

Bump!
Well I saw it today. I liked it. It was made before the current 3d movie craze obviously so there weren't any made for 3d moments where stuff flies over camera or overt flying sequences and stuff. But the 3d conversion was pretty good.
I liked seeing it on the big screen again.
Watching the dinos in 3d made me feel like when I was in a museum with those full size dressed dinosaur animatronics they've had over the years. It was pretty impressive and immersive.
I liked the grasses in the jungle. They really stuck out and gave depth with having something in the foreground. It was weird too when you looked into the vehicles while they were on the tour, its hard to explain but it was neat.
Plus obviously the t-rex scenes were a lot of fun as well.
Definitely worth it.
By the way re-reading my post made me wonder, is the 2nd Star Wars prequel still slated for a 3d release this year? or did Disney postpone that or rearange the 3d releases?Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
i captured the short trailer (disney channel) and noticed the telecine was iiiP, which got me curious why they used that format for the trailer. i don't know if the broadcast is the same format or the usual PPPii. i'm sure the latter is 24p though i didn't go into it. i just noticed it different. anyway.
also, i have the original vhs tape of it. it is in very good quality, the digital mastering job is a little different than the usual digital mastering of (selected) commercial vhs tapes. i think i will dig it out and run it through my toshiba dr430 to see what comes out like since it has a decent comb/nr filter over svideo. i wonder if there is a laserdisc version, and the quality aspects. -
@vhelp - I guess I'm not sure why you are bothering with it. If its just curiousity then ok I guess.
But this movie is on dvd and now bluray so I don't know why you need to do anything else with it.
As far as I laserdisc I dunno. It was made in 93 so when was the last laserdisc made? It could have done it since dvd wasn't either around then or was still brand spanking new then (what was it 95 or 97 for dvd? don't know for sure).
But as I said if this is just for curiosity sake sure go ahead. Otherwise I'd say move on and tackle another project you have instead and save the time. Life is too short.....Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
