  1. Hi guys, I'm and absolute beginner in video editing. I have widows 8 and xp platforms. I am looking to edit my daughter's soccer games for on line sportworx and gotsoccer. I am looking for something user friendly that also does audio. I was given an advice from a friend of mine to purchase the Adobe Premiere Elements but it's a little expensive to me. Could you advice some other software with similar functionalities but at lower price. I have read a review for Pinnacle Studio 16 which seems good enough but on a quite lower price (about $60). What would you advice?

  3. Those top ten review pages are almost always paid for by the "#1" product and are worse than useless.

Vegas Movie Studio, Adobe Premiere elements and Pinnacle Studio are generally considered the best of the low price offerings. Vegas is often deeply discounted.

And you can always start with Windows Movie Maker from Microsoft which is free.

I don't have either of them, but Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum and Adobe Premiere Elements are often recommended to novices by VideoHelp members. They cost about $100. Believe it or not $100 is the average price for decent consumer editing software.

I do have an older version of Cyberlink PowerDirector (PowerDirector 9) on my Windows 7 drive, and I find it a bit buggy. It keeps running invisibly in the background for quite a while after it is closed, and sometimes crashes.

Power Director is useless for novice user??

    Pinnacle Studio is best??

For price PD is OK. The only downside is no output using windows codecs. Only this.

Windows 7 "Movie Maker" is good to novice too.

Just in case the OP wants to try Windows Movie Maker, he needs to be aware that Windows 8 doesn't include a version of Movie Maker. He will need to download and install it it. The following page has a link to download Windows Essentials, including Windows Movie Maker, which is compatible with Windows 8 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-live/movie-maker-get-started#t1=overview

Windows Essentials new Movie Maker is an improved version of Windows Live Movie Maker. I haven't tried the new Movie Maker yet, but I know that it will be very different from the version of Movie Maker provided with Windows XP. For one thing, the default output file is now an MP4 using the H.264 codec, not a .WMV file.

  7. I've already visited the mentioned websites, thanks guys. I think to try the Cyberlink PowerDirector because I found some good reviews and what's more important to me, is on a suitable price to me (about $49). I'll write you after testing...
