  1. when i record tv shows to my sony rdr-hdc100 hard drive with subtitles on and then play it back from the hdd i can see the subtitles, but when i dub it to a dvd i cant have subtitles. the subtitle button on the remote keeps showing off.
    can anybody help?

    Are you sure they are subtitles and not closed caption titling? They might be closed caption that your tv was automatically displaying on the original broadcast.

    I don't know if it is possible to record the closed captions with a dvd recorder or whatever type of unit you are using.

    Assuming these are closed captions and not subtitles I would do a forum search for closed captions and see what you can dig up.

    It would help to note whether or not you recorded off of cable/sat/fios or over the air. The transmission method is important.

    Is this a dvr or a dvd recorder you are using?

    Edit - it might also be beneficial to note your general location - Ie north america or Europe or Asia etc. The closed caption technology is different in the various areas if this is a closed caption issue.

    They are closed captions, I didn`t realize the difference between cc and subtitles. I record to a dvd recorder via external antenna and then dub to dvd and watch the show on a different dvd player. My location is Australia.
