I'm trying to use One Touch Video Capture on a computer I just built. Software installed just fine, the driver apparently installed just fine (I went all the way thru the wizard to Finish). But when I insert the usb plug, I get this message:

"USB Device Not Recognized. One of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem click this message."

When I click on the message I get a box identifying an Unknown Device in one of the ports. When I double click on "Unknown device", I get a box saying that there are no drivers installed for this device. (That's why I said "apparently" above.) But as far as I can tell, I've installed the driver. When I click to have Windows search for a better match, it tells me that it can't find a better match than the one that's already installed.

The new motherboard is an MSI A75A-G55 with an AMD A6 3670 cpu.

I checked, and it works just fine on the other computer, which is several years old. Can't remember the motherboard, but it's an Intel Core 2 Duo cpu.

    Suggestions will be much appreciated.

What OS did you install for your new PC?

Operating system is Windows XP, same as the computer where I was running One Touch before.

And the usb port seems to be functioning properly; I hadn't yet hooked up my printer, so I did that. Windows recognized it, and downloaded drivers for it. Seems to be fine.

One other thing. I was looking again at the installation cd for One Touch, and it contained DirectX 9. Thinking that it might be required for One Touch, I tried to install it. That seemed to be a big mistake. I got a bluescreen stop error, and ended up doing a system restore.

Searching the computer where I was using OneTouch before, I found a folder for DirectX, but it was empty

Since the device still works on your other PC, and both are using XP, I would first try the same driver version for the One Touch Video Capture on your new PC as you have installed on the old one. If you are already using the same driver version as in your old PC, uninstall and reinstall anyway.

You will need to completely remove whatever One Touch Video Capture driver is already there, and it may be necessary to temporarily disable your security software during installation.

usually_quiet - Your suggestion makes sense to me, but I think I am in fact using the same driver. I used the same installation disc that I used for the original installation on the first computer. And I did uninstall and reinstall as you suggested, but no luck.

Also, I looked at Device Manager, and there were several yellow question marks denoting AMD USB controllers. I looked at each one and updated the drivers (and they apparently were successfully updated), thinking for sure that this would be the answer. But it wasn't. The OneTouch device is still unrecognized.

Here's a new twist. First, it's working now. The twist is this - I plugged in a four-port USB hub (I can't remember now why I thought to try this), and I plugged the capture device into the USB hub. Voila! It works, the tape playing in the VCR shows up in the capture software, and it produces a file. Why does it work this way, but not when plugged directly into the computer port? I have no idea.
