  1. Well, I'm very very furious 'cause now I know that my P˙hilips DVD 722 has a problem with firmware (2.9.6).
Every player has that firmware has problems with SVCD:

    Time shown wrong.
    ffw/rew doesn't work lenght > 40 mins.
    svcd subtitles freeze player.
DVDs freeze 1-2 times every movie.

Now, we know it's not a problem of encoding, or authoring, 'cause with Philips SVCD Designer problems are still there.
    It's a firmware problem!

Why doesn't Philips release a new firmware version?

Let's write to Philips and ask for a solution!
I wrote in main site www.philips.com

We're so many person. Let's do it.

Write in this post, please, and excuse me for my English.

I have mailed them and eventually they offered to install an upgrade (chip) on my DVD712 (old firmware was 2.9.6). They did so and couldn't fix the problem so they gave me my money back.

I'll buy something else when I find a player that plays all DVD's/VCD's/SVCD's without problems (so far I haven't found it).

  3. Is this mean that firmware is not upgradable by cd-rom?
    Where did you post them?

Yeah, it would seem so. I recall another thread (on this forum I think) where some other guy also said that the 712/722 was not flashable by CD-rom.

I used the feedback button on the Philips site to mail them. Mind you, it took months of writing and waiting.

  5. By the way, check out this thread on another forum. There's some interesting information on the DVD712:

There is also a download link to new firmware for this player, although it may only work on the correct hardware chip.
