OK, WMM may not be 1st. choice, but for simple video splitting and saving the results, it did what I need. But it has stopped working: now, when I choose to save the 'movie' to my PC, WMM (2.1) quits with no error message. It creates an empty wmv file, but that is it (zero bytes).

Tried reinstalling via the inf file and when that didn't fix the problem, system restore (though can't guarantee the restore point was at a time when WMM was OK). Nothing helps (on this PC I use XP Pro SP3). Any ideas what is wrong - I have no error messages to go on (nor in Event Viewer)?

(Otherwise, is there a good, freeware alternative - something with the same basic functions as WMM?).

    Thanks,

    Martin

Deleted and reinstalled all my codec packs - seems to have done the trick. No idea how the codecs became corrupted though ...

You may have installed something else that had other non microsoft codec packs that changed the registry.

This is why I won't use codec packs, or programs that won't work with derectx or directshow or .net anymore. They aren't necessary.

I've used Codec Tweak Tool to see what's pointing where in my registry. But I won't use it to change it. I don't trust those sorts of tools. Every real professional programmer I know will wince at the idea.
