UM (Universal Media) Player can RECORD YouTube videos

Softonic newsletter (none of whose links ever work, they all open a browser page "Erreur" etc, never mind that now) announced a wonderful media player to rival, even surpass, VLC. It does have a "nicer" interface but it doesn't seem able to record mms stream, which is what I use VLC for.

However, it is claimed that UMP "records" YouTube videos, and I would like to know why anyone would want to record them when they can so easily be downloaded.

That is a serious question, I am on a slow learning-curve re video recording

I know nothing about that player but not all Youtube videos are easily downloaded. For example:

I have UMPlayer installed on my system.
It's a GUI for MPlayer, similar to SMPlayer.

Though UMPlayer has a YouTube 'record' option, it only downloads the file as you would do with other YouTube download software.
So UMPlayer can 'record' this video OK ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHgZCrAoqKk
But UMPlayer can't 'record' this video ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3M75pAi9JdA

One of those, I couldn't care less whether it can be recorded or not the other - oh boy, you've taken me back, I used to have all their stuff on vinyl

Ahem, back on topic - UMP seems a nice player, pity it's not got the stream recording capability.
